Protest Through Poetry︎︎︎ is an international collective of BIPOC activist poets. We work together through writing seminars, poetry workshops, and demonstrate our protest publicly through multimedia and physical demonstrations. As BIPOC poets, our very gathering is inherently political and an act of resistance. We gather to correct injustice. Through poetry, we write to disrupt. We use our words to empower, our poetry for healing and visibility. Together, we share our stories and learn from one another’s expertise. We want to provide a safe outlet for poets of color to gather in solidarity and process, protest, and refuel through poetry and activism.
Our community began through a 2-night seminar last summer in which BIPOC writers gathered digitally to affirm Black Lives Matter, establish solidarity and unity among BIPOC writers, and reflect on our role in protest poetry. Since then, PTP has grown and collaborated online through community writing prompts, raffles to support BIPOC businesses, and the digital making of the PTP Anthology. We now hope to provide print copies of the Anthology for our community.
Protest Through Poetry believes in poetry as a physical form of protest. We see the print Anthology as a physical manifestation of activism through its support in BIPOC writers and impact through its distribution. PTP is a grassroots organization and believes in gaining financial support from our community and allies. In funding this Anthology you are also elevating BIPOC Writers (+30 BIPOC poets) and supporting BIPOC businesses. We thank you for your support in this publication both financially and in solidarity. We are grateful to the BIPOC poets who provided their words and their stories to PTP.
